麻豆视频最新最全 University at Ashtabula will feature over two dozen free hands-on demonstrations and experiments for scientists of all ages at 鈥淭he Hidden Life of Spices鈥, a free community-wide National Chemistry Week event, on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025, from 9 a.m. 鈥 12 p.m. in Robert S. Morrison Hall (3300 Lake Road West).

鈥淣ational Chemistry Week is celebrated around the world and it鈥檚 very exciting to be able to once again host a wonderful 鈥 and free 鈥 event here in Ashtabula and on our campus,鈥 said Ann Abraham, Ph.D., associate professor of chemistry and chair of the Northeastern Ohio local section of the American Chemistry Society. 鈥淲e have a lot of people from across Ashtabula, Lake, Geauga and Cuyahoga Counties participating and it is always lot of fun for everyone in attendance.鈥

Many of the activities and experiments center around the theme of 鈥淭he Hidden Life of Spices.鈥 Chemistry plays a crucial role in how spices can create various smells and flavors, while also acting as a medicine or fabric dyes. The chemical structure of these spices plays a huge role in how the spice is perceived by people 鈥 the smallest difference can completely change how a spice tastes or smells. Featured experiments include turmeric and paprika dyes, making spice wreaths, homemade laundry soap and a narrative lesson on spices from a Civil War soldier鈥檚 perspective, and many more.

Other activities range from giveaways, door prizes and beginner science books or face painting and crafts for little guests to jewelry making bouncing ball making for older students. High school and college students can have their resumes reviewed and participate in mock interviews.

Tasty experiments like cotton candy and popcorn popping offer educational snack breaks. Plus, there will be an appearance and show 鈥 featuring the fan-favorite balloon animals - by Swifty the Clown!

National Chemistry Week (NCW) promotes the value of chemistry in everyday life, with local sections, student communities, technical divisions, businesses, schools, and individuals in communicating the importance of chemistry to our quality of life. Started in 1987 as National Chemistry Day, NCW is celebrated every year during the third week in October.
