Please share with us your favorite story about how a CPH student or alumni has impacted your agency
My favorite story is not about one student, but rather about the many students that I had the opportunity to work with over the years. The diversity of backgrounds along with the diversity of skills has been essential, creating a laboratory for brainstorming solutions to problems that our clients face.
Would you recommend CPH students to other public health or nonprofit organizations?
I would highly recommend CPH students at both the graduate and undergraduate level. A wide variety of specialized areas of study offered by CPH makes it easy to find the right match.
What would you like our readers to know about your agency?
Oriana House began as an independent, non-profit community corrections agency in 1981 with a primary focus of helping the criminal justice system manage driving-while-intoxicated offenders. At Oriana, we feel communities, families, and individuals are stronger when people are able to maintain sobriety, change problematic thinking and behaviors, and establish healthy relationship skills. In-keeping with our agency鈥檚 mission, Oriana House changes lives and contributes to achieving healthier and safer communities by providing compassionate, high quality, and effective community corrections and behavioral health services.

How have CPH students been able to assist with your mission and goals?
CPH students have helped Oriana achieve its mission in many ways. However, by far, the biggest contribution from CPH students to the research department has been to provide the agency with timely, thorough and accurate data in order to provide the most effective services to help our clients and improve our communities.

I like the variety that my job offers. No two days are the same. Over the course of a year, I would say 60% of my time is devoted to research design and methodology; 30% devoted to grant writing and grant maintenance. The remainder is devoted to employee mentoring and administrative responsibilities.
Was there someone in the college that had an impact on you?
That is an easy one. I have always counted on Dean Sonia Alemagno, Ph.D., for her sage advice for over a decade and a half.
Is there any additional information you鈥檇 like to share?
I really appreciated my time working with, and at, the college of public health. Happy 15th anniversary!
